About the Artist

ROY LICHTENSTEIN

American, b. 1923, New York, USA. d. 1997

A leading figure in establishing the Pop Art movement in 1960s New York, Lichtenstein made paintings and prints based on commercial imagery to satirize mass production. With his hard-edged painting style, he appropriated Ben-day dots to create his own interpretations of comics and advertisements—treating all images, high or low, equally.
